Every year the winter comes and food for the birds becomes scarce. Many birds stay in our region and we can enjoy them during the whole of winter, but they are hungry and they need vitamins.

The Gardigo Apple Feeding Station should be set up in winter with the first snowfall. This is the time when birds will look for feeding places and remain faithful to them. The feeder should be placed as protected as possible and hung, so that the birds are not fully exposed to the weather whilst feeding.

Enjoy helping the birds in your garden by using the Gardigo Feeding Station.

Application
place the Apple or any other fruit onto the skewer. Feeder can be hung into the garden with the help of hooks.

Watch out! Please make sure that you only feed the birds when they have no other way to get food (e.g. frost and snow).

Feine Sache

FAQs

What is the best way to feed apples to birds? ›

Make a perch for the birds by pushing a stick into either end of the bottom of the apple (it doesn't have to be all the way through). With your last stick, tie the string around it, then push the string through the core of the apple to the top. You can now hang your apple from a tree using the string!

How to make a bird feeder with an apple? ›

All you'll need to do is cut the apple in half, scoop out the core with a spoon and then fill the hole with a mixture of peanut butter or lard and bird seed. Then, you can attach some string to each side of the apple and hang up in a tree.

Will birds eat a whole apple? ›

Birds also enjoy other fruits such as oranges, plums, apples, grapes, cherries, crabapples, and prickly pear. Birds may swallow small fruits whole, and any seeds that are defecated could regrow into new plants for future fruit crops. Larger fruits may be pierced, shredded, or torn for birds to reach the flesh.

Is it safe to feed birds apples? ›

While most fruit is safe and generally healthy for birds to consume in small amounts, certain fruits containing seeds (such as apples and pears) and pits (such as cherries, apricots, peaches, nectarines, and plums), should not be offered to birds without removing the seeds and pits first, as these seeds and pits ...

Will squirrels eat apples? ›

You may notice some of your garden crops have bite marks and ask, “do squirrels eat apples?” They do. Like other rodents, squirrels have four front teeth that continually grow. This allows them to bite through hard exteriors like apples and nuts.

Do blue jays eat apples? ›

Birds damage orchards by attacking the fruit, eating fruit buds, and occasionally breaking branches on young trees. Blue jays, crows, ravens and sometimes turkeys are the most frequently identified fruit peckers in apples.

Do cardinals eat apples? ›

Common seeds like sunflower, safflower, millet, and cracked corn are excellent choices for feeding cardinal birds. Fruits can also be provided to cardinals, although they shouldn't make up the majority of their diet. Fruits such as apples, grapes, oranges, raisins, and berries are great options.

Should you feed birds in summer? ›

Most birds don't need your help in the summer. When they are nesting and rearing their young, many birds focus on eating insects, so feeding is less necessary.

Are coffee grounds harmful to wild birds? ›

Caffeine – Coffee beans, coffee grounds, tea and soda. The effects of caffeine can cause cardiac distress, hyperactivity and possible cardiac arrest. Chocolate – Chocolate will induce vomiting and diarrhea in a bird, but more importantly, it will affect the central nervous system and eventually cause death.

What kind of apples do birds like? ›

Fresh apples are a great source of nutrition for birds when fed in small amounts daily. Your feathered friend is likely to enjoy the taste and texture of a wide variety of apples. Both sweet and tart apples are appropriate for birds.

Will robins eat apples? ›

A Robin's Favorite Winter Foods

Winter robins eat berries, other fruits, and seeds they find on shrubs, trees, and vines. If robins happen to overwinter near you, you can offer them frozen or fresh fruit. They'll go for apple slices, raisins, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and cherries.

How do you encourage birds to eat fruit? ›

Cutting larger fruits into bite-sized pieces can make them more desirable. Offer them in a washable bowl on a platform feeder or flat deck railing—don't put anything that can get so sticky onto a wooden feeder or anything else that is hard to wash.
