A spicy Japanese oil which infuses sesame oil with the taste and aroma of chili peppers

Details

Heated sesame oil with added chili peppers to infuse it with the flavor and aroma. Initially introduced as a dipping sauce for gyoza, "rayu" (Japanese chili oil) has seen many spice additions beyond chili pepper and evolved into a unique sauce, and now it is often used in many different kinds of cuisine beyond just Chinese.

Nutrition

High in fat as it is practically all oil, it also includes capsaicin from the chili pepper which acts to help burn fats.

Storage

Store at room temperature in a place away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.

Trivia

Rayu mixed with chopped garlic, onions, and other ingredients is quite popular in Japan right now. But, make sure you watch your calorie intake as this bumps up the total calories.
